In 2026, Svi sveti (All Saints' Day) is on Sunday, 1 November, and Dušni dan (All Souls' Day) on Monday, 2 November. All Saints' Day is a public holiday in Croatia; All Souls' Day is a working day. Opening hours of large cemeteries
Opening hours are set by each cemetery administration and may change. Check the official page before you go (links below).
Mirogoj outside the holidays: until 30 Oct 6:00–20:00, from 3 Nov 7:30–18:00 (source: Gradska groblja). For other cemeteries, for example in Split, Osijek or Zadar, we found no reliable visiting hours for these days. Please ask the responsible administration.

Tips for lanterns and flowers
Buy early: the week before the holiday has more choice and fewer crowds. Battery lanterns last longer in wind; bring a lighter for classic ones. Chrysanthemums are the traditional All Saints' flower and handle the cold well.
Keep flames away from dry flowers and wreaths, especially when the bura wind blows. Old lanterns and packaging go in the bins at the cemetery. Come early in the morning for easier parking and freer paths. Clean the grave a day or two before, so the holiday itself is left for calm and family.
Checklist: what to do at the grave
First the foundation: clean the headstone and borders, remove leaves and weeds. Second the decoration: chrysanthemums, a dignified wreath, fresh arrangements. Third the light: candles and lanterns burning on the evening of 1 November.
Can't be there?
Many families live far from the grave, in another city or abroad. That is completely normal. In Croatia, a local caretaker booked through Oaza Mira can clean the grave, light a candle or place flowers or a wreath on your behalf. After the visit you receive a photo in the app.

- No. All Saints' Day (1 November) is a public holiday in Croatia; All Souls' Day (Dušni dan, 2 November) is a working day. In 2026 it falls on a Monday.
- When is the cemetery least crowded?
- Usually early in the morning and in the days before the holiday. Many families prepare the grave in the week before.
- I can't get to the grave. What can I do?
